Growing up in Kolkata, art was an important part of my formative years. So, although my
formal education was in the field of physics and I worked in the corporate sector for a few
years, I was very interested in drawing and painting all along. Eventually, my passion for
painting took over, and I decided to pursue it full time.
Having evolved from my initial style of realistic oil paintings, I now enjoy doing figurative
work, mostly in acrylic. Shapes, forms and colours have always interested me. I am fascinated
with the marks left by brush strokes on a blank canvas. I experiment with colour and forms
through which I try to tell the story of the beauty of life, of people and their engagement with
the environment. A large number of my paintings are based on human forms - some realistic,
some abstract.
I have been fortunate to have had the eminent artist, Smt. Shobha Broota, as a mentor. Living
in different cities in India has also been a very enriching experience culturally for me. That,
along with my love for travelling, has influenced my work to a great extent.
So far, I have taken part in numerous shows, group and solo, which are mentioned below.
